Anthony Matthews, LCSW
Anthony Matthews is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a special emphasis on working with couples and adults. He obtained his Master of Social Work from San Diego State University and his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Anthony has over 12 years of experience in treating a wide variety of issues that lead an individual or a couple into therapy.
Anthony believes that psychotherapy should be a rewarding experience that generates self-awareness, healing, and personal growth. The process should also alleviate painful experiences like depression, anxiety, loneliness and relationship conflict. While he believes there is no one-size-fits-all approach, Anthony relies on techniques that have evidence to support their effectiveness.
He also believes that people are remarkably resilient and have an innate capacity for self-healing. Anthony works with patients to find the inner strength and resources necessary to confront the inevitable challenges life brings. He values the relationship and rapport he has with his clients and trusts that the therapeutic relationship is the backbone of transformation. He supports harnessing the power of emotions, given that feelings are a powerful compass to finding one’s way in life.
Anthony relies on his specialized training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples and Families, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to guide his work.
