Laurie Berenson, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist practicing in Vista. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology from San Diego State University. She then went on to receive her doctorate in clinical psychology from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia.
Dr. Berenson has been licensed in California for the last 23 years and has practiced in a variety of settings including inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, and residential. Dr. Berenson also holds a certificate as a bereavement facilitator. She works primarily with patients dealing with loss and grief, depression, anxiety, trauma, and schizoaffective disorders.
After supervising for many years and developing an internship training program for a local non-profit agency, Dr. Berenson joined the Professional Training Office of CSPP at Alliant International University. There she continues to act as a site liaison, monitoring and mediating for doctoral students placed at local agencies for their clinical training. Dr. Berenson also screens all agencies interested in becoming practical or internship training sites.
Dr. Berenson sees her patients as giant jigsaw puzzles and helps her patients identify the pieces by looking at patterns of relating. She views therapy as a joint journey, but one that ultimately belongs to the patient. Although her framework is psycho-dynamic in nature, she employs the use of cognitive behavioral techniques along the way. She has a private practice in Vista consisting primarily of Medi-Cal and Medicare patients
